👋 I'm Russ!
I'm a dad, husband, developer, and musician. I like to build things in Rust, JavaScript, Typescript, C/C++. When necessary, I have built Golang and .NET applications in production.
I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Background
I started my professional life in the Military as a US Air Force communications officer. This was a wonderful learning opportunity where I gained invaluable experience leading people, managing projects, and leveraging technical skills.
After an interlude in Afghanistan, I was recruited to join the Air Force Red Team and served as a penetration tester and tool developer.
I ended my active duty career as a strategic operations planner. This was yet another educational endeavour, coordinating and learning along side many cross functional teams. AT this point, however, I decided to transition to a military reservist and attempt to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up.
Start Up Days
All the way back in 2014, my good friend Chris and I had the brilliant plan to leave our military jobs and start a company. We had some idea of what we were doing, but even that might be overselling it.
Long story short, we managed to convince my very pregnant wife it was a worthy endeavour and we were off to the races.
We experienced all of the start-up-roller-coaster phases you can imagine. Early success, investors, ill-timed industry changing tides, growth, the-opposite-of-growth, pivots, traction, recognition, competition, and finally acquisition in 2022.
Now
These days I'm simply looking to build meaningful and interesting software, and have fun doing it.
When I'm not coding, generally I'll have a guitar or drumsticks in my hands. Otherwise you'll find me hanging out with my family, running, or cycling.
